ABOUT THIS COLLECTION

So many things in flux, so much change, and yet within this change so much remains the same. The strong lines persevere, often invisible, and drag things along inexplicably at the surface. We can offer no reasons, just observation and notation.

Again, this format repeats from previous collections. Of the 500 pieces written in 1994 and 1995, this represents what I consider the "best" 10%, once more presented in chronological order. Some themes and images recur poem to poem, showing themselves to be insistent memes whose demands overcome nagging aesthetic concerns for lyrical flow. Like the darkness within, they exist and must be ceded their due.

The outer world, the inner world, which is more real? The former taints the latter, seeping poisons into zones which should be pure; the latter defines the former, casting shadows where few are seen. Not even time is blameless, as it forms eddies and recycles scenes without clear point. All in all there is a sense of sinking, of a world gone bad, moving into "Some Semblance Of Decay".

- B.M.T., 1996
