1993 PARLIAMENT OF THE WORLD'S RELIGIONS
"YOUR VOICE" NEWSLETTER COLLECTION AVAILABLEFor a week in Fall of 1993 in Chicago, the world's religious leaders gathered at the Parliament of the World's Religions to endorse a "Declaration Towards a Global Ethic". This important and widely hailed document was the most visible product of the Parliament, but by no means the only one.
Aside from the approximately 150 co-signing delegates, the Parliament was attended by some 6,500 people representing the full spectrum of religious belief. A newsletter, "Your Voice", chronicled the daily spirit of the Parliament, and became the vehicle of expression for the majority of attendees.
Distributed on a catch-as-catch-can basis at the Parliament site, the complete set of twelve newsletters was obtained by very few. These essential documents have now been compiled in book form. The Your Voice #1 - #12 collection provides a chance for those who attended the Parliament to relive the experience, and for others to get a feel of what the Parliament of the World's Religions was like.
The Parliament sought to forge a fundamental consensus concerning human values, seeking what the religions of the world already have in common. This was not an easy process, and much of the give-and-take, the controversies and heated debates, have only been preserved in Your Voice #1 - #12.
