THE SPELL OF MAKING OFFERS A PRACTICAL GUIDE
TO CONSTRUCTING MEANINGFUL RITUALAll religions have their rituals, their ceremonies and rites. Most practitioners never question where and when their religion's particular liturgies originate, they just "are traditional". Some religions, however, do not have the luxury of long histories of open practice, faiths such as Wicca are only now being celebrated publicly, and their priests and priestesses are faced with quandaries as to how to properly address situations needing appropriate rites where none exist. The book, The Spell Of Making was written to address this need.
Although written by "Blacksun", a Wiccan ritualist of 20 years experience, The Spell Of Making is not just a book for the modern-day Witch. Based on the principles of the Catholic Saint Ignatius Loyola as much as Blacksun's own coven work, The Spell Of Making addresses ritual construction for all faiths, providing the tools to generate meaningful rites for whatever situation may arise demanding "the benefit of clergy".
Blacksun walks the reader through what he describes as the main steps of ritual building: preparation; defining purpose; establishing the area; consecration; crystallizing vision; raising energy; focusing, directing, and releasing energy; grounding stray energy; and returning things to their previous state. All through The Spell Of Making the tone is light, relating all cautions and instructions to real-life situations in the author's coven. To illustrate how each step can be applied, Blacksun shows the reasoning and "mental chatter" involved in constructing a particular ritual, that of installing a new High Priestess. The installation ritual and the "Diana's Bow" ritual are both included in their entirety to provide point-for-point examples for the reader to follow in constructing their own works.
