Auer, Candle Magick: a Guide for the Novice, addresses this problem by providing a clear, concise, and informative introduction to the magical use of candles. However, candle work is also extremely flexible, and can allow the learning magic worker to increase the complexity of the rituals as they grow in experience (many long-time Magicians use candle magic workings as their main "craft", due to this ease and flexibility).
In Candle Magick: a Guide for the Novice, J.E. Auer takes the reader through the history of magical candle use in the West, explains the various systems of planets, hours, and astrological signs; and discusses several directions that can be taken with oils, plants, carvings, and working with the Tarot. Once this ground-work is set, Auer then "walks" the reader through several types of ritual, explaining why things are done, while detailing what actions should be performed. Diagrams for eight different rituals are included to help the beginner get started.
